Greek Yogurt Buffalo Chicken Dip is an easy to make baked dip that is cheesy and creamy but slightly lightened up from greek yogurt. Serve this zesty dip with veggies or crackers.

Here's a spin on classic buffalo wings! You have all the flavors you love, in an easier to eat appetizer. For another fun spin on buffalo wings, try these Air Fryer Buffalo Cauliflower Wings or Buffalo Chicken Stuffed Peppers.

Buffalo Chicken Dip is actually one of the most popular Super Bowl appetizers of choice for a number of states, and with good reason. It's easy to whip together and a crowd-pleaser.

This buffalo dip with greek yogurt is delicious, but is slightly healthier from the addition of greek yogurt.

For more easy appetizers try jalapeno popper wontons, spinach artichoke wontons, and pepperoni pizza stuffed mushrooms.

Why You'll Love This Recipe

  • Easy: This dip is super easy to make and it only takes a few ingredients. Make it even easier by using canned chicken if you'd like.
  • Make Ahead: This dip can be made entirely ahead of time apart from baking in the oven, up to 2 days in advance. Simply pop it into the oven right before you are ready to serve. This makes it a great option for parties.
  • Lightened up version: Make this a healthy greek yogurt buffalo chicken dip by omitting the cream cheese and using only greek yogurt.
  • Crowd Pleaser: Every time I serve this dip, I get rave reviews.
  • Low Carb: The dip itself is super low carb and is great served with veggies as dipping vessels.

Ingredients

ingredients for greek yogurt buffalo chicken dip on a white background.
  • Shredded chicken: Precooked shredded chicken is the base of this dip. For extra ease, use rotisserie chicken or Instant Pot Shredded Chicken Breasts.
  • Frank's Red Hot Sauce: Frank's red hot sauce is a classic when it comes to buffalo wing sauce. It has some heat to it, but it is not overly spicy.
  • Cream cheese: This recipe uses full fat cream cheese but you can use reduced if you prefer.
  • Shredded Monterey Jack Cheese: Shredded cheddar cheese can be used as well.
  • Plain Greek yogurt: Greek yogurt lightens up this dip. This recipe uses full fat greek yogurt, but feel free to use reduced fat.
  • Spices and Herbs: A mix of garlic powder, paprika, and salt.

Variations and Substitutions

  • All greek yogurt can be used in place of cream cheese for a healthier version.
  • Ranch seasoning can be used instead of the spices and salt. Use one packet of dry ranch seasoning.
  • Sour cream can be used as a greek yogurt alternative.

Step 3.  Add chicken and cheese (reserving ½ cup of the shredded cheese for later). Mix until just combined.

Step 4. Place dip in an oven safe baking dish and top with reserved cheese. Bake for 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbling. Serve with celery, carrots, or tortilla chips.

Recipe Tips

  • This dip can be made without the stand mixer. The stand mixer just helps ensure the cream cheese and greek yogurt incorporate well.
  • Make sure the chicken is shredded or chopped on the smaller side. This will make it easier to pick up with your crackers or veggies.
  • Because the chicken is cooked, this dip can be served warm or cold.

How to Serve

Topping: Thinly sliced green onions add color and freshness to this rich dip. Some people like to add blue cheese crumbles on top and I think that would be a delicious addition. Sprinkle them on as soon as you take the dish out of the oven.

Serving: Use your favorites chips, crackers, or pretzels for this dip. My favorite way to serve this is actually with bell peppers, but it's great with any veggie stick like carrots, celery, and snap peas.

For something different, fill mini peppers, like these mini cream cheese stuffed peppers, before baking.

Recipe FAQs

Can you make buffalo chicken dip without ranch dressing?

You sure can. While many buffalo chicken dip recipes call for ranch dressing mix, this one does not. It is seasoned with garlic and paprika, and it is still incredibly flavorful.

Can you make buffalo chicken dip with greek yogurt?

Yes, this recipe is lightened up with greek yogurt. You can also use only greek yogurt in this recipe by omitting the cream cheese entirely and adding an additional 8 oz. of greek yogurt.
