Air Fryer Fingerling Potatoes are brown and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. These potatoes are seasoned liberally with a simple spice blend, making them the perfect pairing for a wide variety of main dishes.

Seasoned air fryer fingerling potatoes.

Today I am sharing with you the simplest side dish recipe for air fried fingerling potatoes.

We are a big fans of the air fryer in our household. We truly use it for so many things. We use it nearly every day for heating breakfast sausage in the mornings. It’s great for making hotdogs and nuggets all those kinds of grab and go foods.

It’s also a great tool to use for making side dishes quickly. We love making baked sweet potatoes in the air fryer. One less thing to put in the oven!

Roasted potatoes in the air fryer is such an easy side dish, and they turn out perfectly every time. All you have to do is add your favorite spices (I share a lovely blend but you can truly use any spice blend you want for this, rosemary would be great). A little bit of oil, set the timer, and you’re good to go.

Ingredients

Whole potatoes with seasoning ingredients.

Fingerling potatoes: These are generally pale, yellow in color and about 2 to 3 inches long. They are skinnier than they are wide, kind of like a finger.

Spices: You can get creative here, but I use a simple blend of pepper, salt, garlic powder, and paprika.

Oil: A little bit of oil helps with flavor, having the spices stick to the potatoes, and ensuring that they crisp up in the air fryer. I like to use a high heat oil, like avocado oil. You do not want to add less oil than the recipe calls for or the potatoes will dry out.

How to Cook Fingerling Potatoes in the Air Fryer

Soaked fingerling potatoes in water.

Step 1. You will want the potatoes to be generally uniform in size, so slice any extra large ones lengthwise or in half so that all the potatoes are about one and a half inches long and 1 inch wide. Soak potatoes in water for 30 minutes and drain. Dry thoroughly using a towel.

Step 2. In a mixing bowl, add potatoes, oil, and seasonings. Mix well to fully coat.

Step 3. Place potatoes in the air fryer basket and cook at 390°F for about 12-15 minutes. Shake the air fryer basket or use tongs to stir the potatoes once at the halfway point to ensure even browning.

Step 4. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may have to work in stages. The amount in this recipe required two batches in my standard sized air fryer.

What to Serve with Air Fried Potatoes

The seasoning blend for these is very versatile, making them a great accompaniment to a variety of main dishes. Here are some great ones to choose from.

  • Cast Iron Flank Steak
  • Bavette Steak
  • Texas Roadhouse Smothered Chicken
  • Pizza Stuffed Chicken

Pro Tip: Use the leftovers with a fried egg for a delicious and simple breakfast the next morning.

Storage

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to four days. To reheat, microwave until warm or place back in the air fryer for 3 to 5 minutes until they crisp back up.

  • Pea Salad

Recipe FAQs

What is the best substitute for fingerling potatoes?

If you can't find fingerling potatoes, try another small potato such as baby yellow potatoes or red potatoes.

Why do you soak potatoes before cooking?

Soaking potatoes in water before cooking helps to remove some of the starch, which allows them to get crispier as they cook. This is not a completely necessary step with the air fryer, but it's a simple way to add some additional crunch.

Is preheating your air fryer necessary?

This is a personal preference. Some people swear by it, but I have never preheated my air fryer and I have yet to have any issues.
