    Air Fryer Hot Dogs

    Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

Air Fryer Hot Dogs take just a few minutes to cook up and come out perfectly cooked every time! Get the delicious flavor of grilled hot dogs without having to fire up the grill. No preheating required!

One of my favorite uses for our Ninja Foodi Deluxe is the air fryer function, and specifically using it to heat up lunch. It's quicker than the stove/oven/grill, and the food tastes better than if it were cooked in the microwave. This recipe will work with whatever brand of air fryer you have, whether it be a basket or toaster model.

We love air fryer mini frozen pizzas and air fryer frozen burgers, and lately we have been loving to air fry hot dogs! They take just a couple minutes to make and are cooked better than other methods I have tried.

    Why you'll love this recipe

    • Easy: This is such a simple way to heat up hot dogs for lunch or dinner. No water boiling or preheating a grill!
    • Kid-friendly: Most kids love hot dogs!
    • No clean-up: The hot dogs cook directly in the air fryer basket, no extra dishes or utensils needed.

    Ingredients

    nathans hot dogs packaging.
    • Hot dogs: Use your favorite brand of hot dogs, any will work. We love Nathan's hot dogs and Oscar Mayer Natural Angus.
    • Hot Dog Buns: If you want, you can warm the buns in the air fryer for a minute to get a bit of a toasted bun. Be careful not to let them go too long, or they will dry out.
    • Toppings: Here's where you can get creative. Some topping ideas for hot dogs, ketchup, mustard, pickles, sport peppers, mayo, tomatoes, relish, cheese, and onions. I am a Chicago girl- but I wont say no to ketchup on my hot dog!

How to Cook Hot Dogs in the Air Fryer

Set the temperature of your air fryer to 400 degrees.

Place the hot dogs in the air fryer basket or tray in a single layer. You can place them directly on the basket.

Cook the hot dogs in the air fryer for about 5-6 minutes, or until they are heated through and reach your desired level of doneness. You can flip them halfway through the cooking time for even browning, although it's not necessary.

Once the hot dogs are cooked, carefully remove them from the air fryer. Be cautious as they will be hot.

Serve the hot dogs in buns with your favorite toppings and condiments.

    Recipe Tips

    • Sometimes the hotdogs can burst while air frying. Poke a few holes in them before cooking to prevent this.
    • If you have a stainless steel insert, you have easily double the amount of hot dogs you make at a time. You can find them on amazon to help double your capacity by creating two levels.

What to serve with hot dogs

Aside from buns and hot dog toppings mentioned above, here are some classic dishes to go with hot dogs.

    • watermelon
    • chips
    • french fries
    • potato salad
    • cole slaw
    • pasta salad

    Recipe FAQs

What temperature should you cook hot dogs at in the air fryer?

You should cook hot dogs at a temperature of around 390°F to 400°F. This temperature allows the hot dogs to cook quickly and evenly, resulting in a crispy exterior and a juicy interior.

Do you need to preheat the Ninja Foodi?

I never do! Some claim that this is a necessary step, but I have never preheated my air fryer and it works just fine.
