What is an adrenal cocktail?

If you're wondering, "what does an adrenal cocktail do?" you aren't alone. This non-alcoholic drink is said to fight fatigue, combat stress, and provide enhanced hydration. While there are many varieties of adrenal cocktail recipes, most contain coconut water, citrus juice, and a pinch of salt. You may have heard it called a "cortisol mocktail" as well.

How does an adrenal cocktail work?

Your adrenal glands are small triangular glands that sit atop both of your kidneys. The adrenal glands produce hormones to help regulate blood pressure, metabolism, immune system, and your body's response to stress. Adrenal cocktails are said to support adrenal function by replenishing the glands with vitamin C, potassium, and sodium.

Whether or not adrenal cocktails do anything is up for debate and something you can ask your healthcare provider. Regardless, the drink is delicious and certainly a great way to hydrate effectively.

Ingredients

ingredients for an adrenal cocktail on a white marble background.
  • Coconut Water: Coconut water is refreshing and full of minerals and electrolytes such as potassium, managense, amino acids, and calcium.
  • Orange Juice: Orange juice adds a bit of sweetness and adds Vitamin C.
  • Salt: Salt won't make the drink taste salty, it simply amplifies the flavors of the other 2 ingredients. It also aids in replenishing electrolytes and boosting hydration.

Variations and Substitutions

Coconut Cream: Add coconut milk, coconut cream, or heavy cream to make this into a creamy beverage.

Lemon Juice: If you prefer less sweetness, you can replace the orange juice with fresh lemon juice.
