Ingredients

  • 36 wonton wrappers
  • 1 fresh jalapeno minced
  • 4 oz. cream cheese half a block, room temperature
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp. salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Mince jalapeno finely and add to a bowl. Along with that, add cream cheese (softened), shredded cheese, minced jalapeno, sour cream, and salt. Stir to combine.
  • Place one wonton wrapper into each groove of a mini muffin tin, pressing down to form little "cups."
  • Par cook wonton cups before adding cream cheese mixture.
    .
  • Fill baked wonton cups with jalapeno cream cheese filling and place in the oven for 5-7 minutes, or until the filling is heated through and the baked wontons are golden brown. Serve jalapeno wonton poppers warm.

Notes

Before starting, place cream cheese on the counter at room temperature for an hour or so. This will soften the cream cheese and make it easier to work with.
Use fresh grated cheese for the best taste and consistent melting.
If you are concerned about the tips of the wonton cups getting too brown when you bake them with the filling added, place the cups in a 9x13 dish and cover with foil before placing in the oven.
If you find jalapenos to be too spicy, remove the membrane (white part inside) and the seeds. This is where most of the heat is stored. I explain more information about jalapenos including selecting a good jalapeno and spiciness levels here.
